PRESCHOOL SCREENINGS

During a screening, a Speech-Language Pathologist will sit with your child and look at pictures and play games to exam overall communication skills. The following areas are screened:

· Articulation

· Auditory Processing

· Responding to Questions

· Picture Description

· Sequencing

Screenings are usually 10 minutes in length. They are conducted to detect possible speech and language deficits and also to remove parental concerns about their child’s speech and language development. If screening results indicate concerns, a complete speech and language evaluation will be recommended.

SPEECH AND LANGUAGE EVALUATION
A speech and language evaluation is usually recommended if you have a concern about your child's development or if a pediatrician has expressed a concern regarding your child's speech and language development.

What to expect:
You will be asked to complete a developmental/health history form. We invite you to complete this paperwork prior to the first appointment. You may download the “Case History” form from our Forms link on the main page.

A comprehensive speech and language evaluation consists of assessments of receptive and expressive language, articulation, voice, and resonance skills, whenever applicable. Formal and informal assessments are used. Evaluations usually are 60 to 90 minutes in length. Diagnostics typically include parent/guardian interview, review of past evaluations/IEP. A follow-up consultation is then scheduled to discuss comprehensive written report, recommendations and treatment goals.

SPEECH AND LANGUAGE THERAPY
